Problem
Military OneSource is a resource for active-duty military and their families for all aspects of life, with resources specifically related to military living. Navigating the immense amount of relevant content, spanning all aspects of military life, was cumbersome and prevented users from finding the information they needed, quickly and easily.
In order to help active-duty military and their families, the site underwent intense information architecture testing, followed by a proposed redesign for page layouts to assist with finding resources more easily.
Process
In a series of 32 tests, the content and navigation were consolidated from 26 secondary navigation buckets to 6 military life topics, providing fast access to the resources the site provides. This process involved card sorting, tree testing, and user testing to gather user feedback, validate assumptions, and confirm the re-organization was meaningful to real users.
Solution
The content and navigation were consolidated from 26 secondary navigation buckets to 6 military life topics, providing fast access to the resources the site provides.
